Application DBA Support - APPSdirect

World-Class Support
DSP takes a pre-emptive stance towards support. That’s why we offer SLA-driven, flexible, proactive services and exceptional deliverables, plus access to experienced bespoke Oracle and E-Business Suite functional consultants, DBAs, developers and system administrators. We can provide this both remotely via our ITIL service desk and onsite, as needed. Remote access is billed in 15-minute ‘chunks – known as DSPtime – our unique pay-as-you-use billing model that’s highly cost effective.
Application DBA - Specialist Skills
The Application DBA needs to focus on database design and the ongoing support and administration of the database for a specific Oracle E-Business Suite or third party applications. DSP is a certified partner for applications and therefore must invest in suitably trained application DBA's.
Not every organisation employs application DBAs. As applications are typically complex and specific to an organisations requirements and business processes, both investment in time and resources can be costly. DSP provides ad-hoc support and flexible consultancy as when required to clients requiring application dba skills.

Functional Analyst Resources
Access to E-Business Suite consultants who have comprehensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the many functional modules of the eBusiness Suite. Our staff have professional qualifications in key business areas of the eBusiness Suite providing a bridge between your business, your people and the technicians. We are able to complement your business team through major Business Process Re-engineering, or simply help you through any day-to-day problems that you may be experiencing with your current installation.
Health Check
To ensure our full understanding of your current implementation and to highlight immediate and potential problems, we perform a detailed health check. With the information accumulated during this investigation, we will be able to deal with any current functional issues as well as make recommendations about improving your current configuration. A comprehensive report is published to support our findings.
Service Desk
All client incidents are recorded by our support representatives and tracked by our Service Desk system. To ensure the delivery of a quality and reliable service, DSP has an ongoing programme of implementing Service Management processes and procedures based on the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
Oracle Support Liaison
Where necessary, DSP will raise Technical Assistance Requests (TARs) with Oracle via MetaLink and then track, chase and liaise with Oracle Development until the incident has been resolved.
SYSADMIN tasks
We can provide remote SYSADMIN tasks such as username and password maintenance, user responsibilities, user profile options, custom menus, and custom program registration.
Customisations
DSP will provide support for any bespoke customisations that you have made to your eBusiness Suite implementation as well as provide development expertise and resources to assist you in tailoring the applications and their configuration to suit your business needs. We can help to gather user requirements, provide business analysts, perform business process re-engineering, and develop, test and implement new functionality. We can also support you in implementing change within your user community and provide user training on the customisations.
Patch Alerts
DSP will monitor recent patch releases and inform each client of changes that are relevant to their installation and usage. To achieve this, DSP maintain a “patch log” per client which records what patches have been applied, and why and when they were applied.
New Version Functionality; Obviously, in providing an Oracle eBusiness Suite support service, it is in our interest to keep abreast of the functionality that each new release introduces. We can advise clients of new functionality that may be appropriate to the client’s implementation and if required, test and recommend an implementation strategy.
Best Practices
When implementing Oracle Applications, it is important that appropriate technical processes and procedures are in place to ensure the smooth running of the software. Among others, these include the introduction of Change Control procedures and a periodic patch application regime, implementing Patch Logs, and instigating a
purge strategy for the concurrent manager log files.
The application DBA must also be capable of performing a range of functions including:
The difference betwen and Production and Application DBA is the where the DBA applies knowledge and resources. The focus for an Application DBA is on a specific subset of applications rather than the overall database implementation and database environment.
